Working together towards a common goal!

On Tuesday 11 January 2011 more than one hundred enthusiastic participants of the ‘Be Lean Be Green’ information session flooded into the Connekt offices. The programme started at around 15.00 hours with a speech by Nico Anten, Managing Director of Connekt. Subsequently Annemieke de Leeuw, programme manager Sustainable Logistics, gave a brief explanation of the Duurzame Logistiek programme. This covered the core objectives ‘to increase the profitability of companies’ and ‘simultaneously reducing the CO2 emissions by 20%’.
After the introductory part, Arjen Wittekoek, AVR at Van Gansewinkel and Ambassador Sustainable Logistics, inspired his guests with his presentation which included examples of a practical application of sustainable logistics. “Sustainability is our business,” stated Arjen, reinforcing the motto with the following examples, among them ‘Binkie Elektrical’, ‘Toyota Prius Plug-in’, ‘Transport of cullets over water for recycling sheet glass in the Netherlands’ and the masterpiece ‘The Tesla Electric Car’!

After the plenary meeting the guests could choose from four different rooms, depending on the colour of their badge. All groups collaborated in the presentation carousel. The topics chosen as a guideline for the presentation were the following:
1. Toolbox Sustainable Logistics: Green Order: how to encourage socially responsible ordering. Green Tender: how to use sustainable outsourcing, by Mark Schenkius - Mars Nederland. Click here for the report.
2. Lean and Green: How can I become Lean and Green? How to chart emissions and results, by Liane Philipse - Wim Bosman Transport
3. Collaborating for sustainable Regional and City Distribution by Werner Boersma - 020 Stadsdistributie.nl
4. Toolbox Sustainable Logistics: Green Care Transport and Green Order Network Indicator. By Riny Strik & Patrick Massuger - SCA Hygiene Products

The meeting was concluded with drinks and sandwiches for all participants, giving everyone the opportunity to talk with fellow participants, front-runners and ambassadors.
